Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal data for the purposes described below. Under GDPR Article 6, we rely on the lawful bases shown for each processing purpose:
| Category | Fields collected | Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Information | User ID, Email address, Name, Profile image | Create and manage accounts, authenticate users, and link gameplay to signed-in profiles | Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Player Profile | Player ID, Display name, Daily streak, Longest daily streak, Games completed, Income collected, Units built, Units killed, Buildings captured | Store player display names, streaks, and lifetime statistics shown on profiles and leaderboards | Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Gameplay | Map ID, Map date, Game state, Turn submissions, Score, Completion timestamp | Save in-progress and completed daily map runs, process turn submissions, and rank scores on leaderboards | Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) |
| Anonymous Identifiers | Anonymous player ID | Assign and remember a guest player ID in a cookie and local storage so anonymous runs can continue between visits | Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) |
| Preferences | Theme preference | Remember your light, dark, or system theme choice in the browser | Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) |
Right to Withdraw Consent
Where we rely on your consent for any processing of your personal data, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us at privacy@playdailywars.com. Withdrawing your consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing we carried out before you withdrew it. Where consent is required to provide a particular feature or service, withdrawing it may mean we are no longer able to offer that feature or service.
Automated Decision-Making and Profiling
We do not engage in automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you within the meaning of GDPR Article 22.
Data Retention
We retain your data for the following periods:
| Category | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Account Information | Until account deletion |
| Player Profile | Until account deletion |
| Gameplay | Until account deletion; anonymous in-progress runs expire after about 5 minutes |
| Anonymous Identifiers | 1 year |
| Preferences | Until you clear site data or change the preference |
Whether You Are Required to Provide This Data
For each category of personal data we collect, we set out below whether you are required to provide it — by law, under our contract with you, or as a precondition to entering into a contract — or whether provision is voluntary, together with the consequences of failing to provide it.
| Category | Requirement | Consequences |
|---|---|---|
| Account Information | Required under our contract with you | You cannot create an account or sign in without providing this information. |
| Player Profile | Required to enter into a contract | Guest play uses an anonymous ID instead; signed-in profiles require a Clerk account. |
| Gameplay | Voluntary | You can browse maps without playing; starting a run stores gameplay data needed to continue and score the match. |
| Anonymous Identifiers | Voluntary | Guest play requires this identifier; signing in replaces it with your account ID and clears the anonymous ID. |
| Preferences | Voluntary | Theme storage is optional; the site works without it but may flash the wrong theme on load. |
Cookies and Tracking
We use the following types of cookies and tracking technologies:
| Category | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Essential cookies — required for the service to function | Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Analytics cookies — help us understand how the service is used | Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) |
